About

Badami Caves, located in the town of Badami in Karnataka, offer an insight into ancient rock-cut architecture. These caves are carved into a massive sandstone hill and date back to the 6th century. There are four caves in total, with three dedicated to Hinduism and one to Buddhism. The first cave is known for its intricate carvings of Hindu deities like Lord Vishnu, and the second cave is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The third cave, the largest, showcases impressive sculptures of gods and goddesses. The fourth cave, smaller and located a bit higher, is believed to have been used by Buddhists. The caves are adorned with stunning carvings, including beautiful sculptures of divine beings and intricate reliefs that depict scenes from Hindu mythology. The site also offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding valley and the Agastya Lake. Badami, once the capital of the Chalukya dynasty, is rich in history and cultural heritage, making it a popular destination for both history buffs and those interested in architecture. Visitors can walk up to the caves, and the surrounding rocky terrain adds to the charm of the place. The Badami Caves are considered a treasure trove of ancient art, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship of the time.
